Rumors are flying both within and outside the Kingdom that once-banned alcohol is now being sold to tourists in Saudi Arabia.
Is that true? The answer is a very qualified yes.
Those rumors, widely circulated in 2025, included seemingly verified stories that the Kingdom was about to license 600 government approved and licensed liquor stores and hotels throughout the country. The stories purported specific facts, reporting that beer, wine and cider would be allowed, with spirits above 20% alcohol by volume still banned at five-star hotels, resorts and zones within projects such as Neom, Sindalah Island and the Red Sea Project.
But the fact remains — at least for the moment — that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has not lifted its 73-year-old alcohol ban.
So, you can't buy alcohol in Saudi Arabia....right?
